*Kittens & Puppies are cute & cuddly but an adult cat or dog --- Now there is a pet with experience ! It is hard to resist kittens & puppies with their show stealing, tail chasing and other antics *BUT* . . .
*While you are being entertained by energetic kittens & puppies, there is a seasoned veteran waiting in the wings with just as much love to give, with an added charm that comes only with mature adulthood -- YOU are an adult and you are rather swell, just ask us!
*Adult cats have learned to sleep near your head, NOT on it; NOT to climb the drapes or blinds; NOT to climb into the oven, refrigerator or dryer when you are not looking; their size is now fixed; they still like to play like kittens, BUT know how to keep their claws in check; their personality is known and they are appreciative.
*Adult dogs have learned to sleep at the foot of your
bed, NOT on your pillow. They have learned to NOT dig a hole in your carpet. They have learned to *GO* outside. Their size too is fixed yet they love to play. Their personality is known and they are appreciative.
*Sturdy and easy-going many adult pets readily adapt to a home with young children. And they will not be dashing between and under the feet of a senior citizen.
*While kittens & puppies are busy exploring, the adult is content to curl-up on your lap or at your feet and offer an attentive ear or a consoling purr. (Or NOT if that is what you prefer.)
*Best of all, adopting an adult cat or dog is offering him or her a second chance at life and as the song goes *Love is better the second time around*.

Please give our adults your kind consideration. Thank you.

LIFELINE FOR PETS is a State & Federally Incorporated Non-Profit Rescue Organization.
Lifeline was incorporated by the state of California in 1982. It was formed in June of 1981 by Lynne Jordan and Midge Poynter under the name Pet Lifeline. Midge and Lynne were involved in animal rescue work independent of each other until they met through an exchange of letters in the Virginia Kay column of the Pasadena Star-News. Lynne is a management analyst, retired from Federal civil service. Midge is a noted author of books for school children, one of which is "Too Few Happy Endings", a story of humane societies. She has also written, "What is One More?", about the work of animal rescuers. Both books are still sometimes available thru Amazon or other book stores.

Today there are five members on the LIFELINE FOR PETS Board of Directors. Some care for cats and some care for dogs. Working with these directors are several additional volunteer foster parents in Los Angeles, Kern and Orange counties.
Dogs and cats are acquired by LIFELINE in one of three ways - adoption from an animal shelter; picked up from the street as strays; or by owner relinquishment, either voluntary or involuntary. In all cases, the animals are quarantined in an animal hospital to insure their good health. Injuries and illnesses are treated. Necessary shots are given. If the animal is well enough, spaying or neutering is done. In the case of strays, a conscientious effort is made to find the owner. When medically sound, the animal is brought to the home of one of the LIFELINE FOR PETS Directors or to the home of one of our approved volunteers. Here it is observed for a suitable time to determine its behavior traits. If possible, bad habits are corrected. Because of this period of personal observation, an honest and knowledgeable appraisal of the animal can be given to its prospective new owner.

...THE FUTURE...

CATS
Our current (as of January 2006) Feline Adoption Fee is $85.00.
See below for WHAT IS PROVIDED for this fee.
Microchipped cats/kittens are $100.00
Most of our cats ARE microchipped or will be prior to placement.
DOGS
The Canine Adoption Fee varies. Size, age & breed determine the cost of adoption. See below for WHAT IS PROVIDED for this fee.
Microchipping is an extra $15.00 and done prior to placement, unless the rescue has already been chipped. Then the extra charge will be automatically included.
When the animal is deemed ready for adoption, ads are placed in newspapers and CATS/kittens are shown on Saturdays or Sundays at a reputable pet store or at our "Cat Pad"; DOGS/puppies are shown by appointment. Prospective owners are carefully screened and their homes and yards inspected for suitability. Approved adopters keep the pet home for a Two Week Trial Period. If at the end of that time the adoption is suitable in the view of BOTH the adopter and LIFELINE FOR PETS , all papers relating to the animal are given to the new owner. If a match is NOT made the animal is returned to LIFELINE FOR PETS.
OUR ADOPTION PROCEDURE IN BRIEF
*1. Look over the selection of cats/dogs at our adoption events. For dogs, please schedule an appointment to view.
*2. If you do not find what you want, please ask. (Tis' but the tip of the iceberg!)
*3. Read over the LIFELINE Procedure Document.
*4. Complete a LIFELINE Application.
*5. Interview with a LIFELINE Director &/or Volunteer.
*6. Schedule a mutually convenient time with the foster parent to inspect your home and then to deliver the pet to your home.
We do not release any pets from our adoption event locations.
*7. Upon delivery, review the Contract, sign it and pay the Adoption Fee.
If you'd like to pay an additional, tax deductible, donation we would welcome your generosity on behalf of our rescues.
*8. Complete the Two Week Trial Period (see explanation above).
And, if applicable, the Co-Ownership Period.

LIFELINE FOR PETS depends on your donations to pay medical expenses and to provide care for our rescued animals. Ninety-five percent of all money collected goes directly to fulfill that need. Five percent is used towards administration costs. Everyone involved in LIFELINE FOR PETS (including Board members) works on a strictly volunteer basis.
