Who We Are

Cats at the Studios, Inc. ("CATS, INC.") is a non-profit humane organization dedicated to nurturing, spaying/neutering and finding homes for abandoned cats and kittens. We are NOT a shelter. All of our cats and kittens are kept in loving foster homes all over Los Angeles County. Praised for its work in "Cats Magazine", "Cat Fancy" and "Friskies Cat Companion", Cats at the Studios, Inc. is a group of low-profile volunteers who serve as a hands-on organization since 1979.

Adopting a Friend

Each cat receives a health check, is tested, vaccinated, spayed and neutered and dewormed prior to adoption. All cats also receive a treatment of Revolution (for fleas/earmites/heartworms) or Advantage (for fleas).

A tax-deductible donation is required from each would-be adopter, which ensures the safety and welfare of the next abandoned cat or kitten in need.

Our adoption process includes filling out an application and a brief interview with a volunteer. All applications are reviewed by the Board of Directors to ensure that our kitties end up in homes that are perfect for them to live in forever.

History/Background

Legend has it that back in 1931, movie magnate Jack Warner had a temperamental star on his hands. During the filming of "Public Enemy Number One," James Cagney found his favorite wool cap chewed up by rats that had inhabited his dressing room. Cagney fumed to Warner: "Everyone in the world knows the best exterminator of rats is the cat! You ain't seeing me back here 'til I hear some meowing!" The same day, Warner paid a visit to the local animal shelter and returned to the studio with a limousine full of cats. Warner placed a tin can in his office - called the 'kitty kitty' - to collect donations for the new studio "employees." Today, most of Tinseltown's original stars have made their farewell performances, but the descendents of Warner's studio cats still roam the sets. In 1984, a group of studio employees on the Warner Brothers/Columbia Pictures lots decided something had to be done for the growing number of homeless cats in their workplace. The result was Cats at the Studios (Cats, Inc.), a non-profit group whose caregivers have picked up where Warner left off. All the cats have since been spayed/neutered and have their vaccines, medical needs, food and love provided. In return the cats provide a soothing, relaxing and rodent free workplace!

The few founding members of CATS, INC. who have ran this organization all these decades, have found homes for many of the tame cats on the lots and still continue to care for the existing cats on the back-lots of Warner Brothers Studios everyday. Furthermore, these heros still continue to rescue from the city, county and private shelters AND find homes for abandoned cats and kittens AND hold weekend adoptions at various locations.
