News
I would like to say "Hi" to all my friends. I may not know you personally, but, if you are looking for a homeless pet to adopt on Petfinder you are truly a friend.
Sometimes its helpful to know a little about a new organization, and I thought I would take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Donna Jensen and I am the founder of Welcome Waggin. We just started our rescue group on Feburary 1, 2002. I have worked in humane organizations as a volunteer for more than 20 years. I have been a Shelter Manager, served on a humane society Board of Directors, State Humane Officer and foster parent. I live on a ranch with my husband in a small farming community in Northern Calif.. I left humane work for awhile, but now have decided to return to it. I guess as they say its in your blood. Lately I have seen an ever increasing need to help abandoned dogs in our local County Animal Control Shelters, where the adoption rates can be very low. There are just way too many of these perfectly wonderful adoptable dogs being destroyed. So, that is why Welcome Waggin was started. I really hope you love our dogs as much as we do. Come back and visit us often and tell your friends about us. We would love to hear from you with any comments, questions or suggestions. Sincerely Donna Jensen, President
Who We Are
Our Goal: "Saving The Lives Of Man's Best Friend"
We are a small group of dedicated volunteers on a mission to rescue and adopt into wonderful new homes dogs that would otherwise be euthanized at our local Animal Control Shelters. Sad but true, one of our Animal Control Shelters from July,2001 to December,2001 took in 430 dogs and had only 28 adoptions!!!!! A total of 285 were destroyed. This is a situation that we hope to change.
Starting a new rescue group can be extremely difficult. The donations and volunteers are slow coming and foster homes are very scarce. Right now we are trying very hard to raise money to put up a small kennel. If you would like to help us we would be immensely grateful for any donation you could afford to send. If you live in our area and would like to consider becoming a foster home or volunteer we would love to hear from you. Please be assured that all the money donated goes to helping the dogs. Thank you.
Adopting a friend
We only show dogs by appointment only after you have first selected a dog you are interested in adopting, called for a phone interview and are an approved home. Or, you may request an application via phone or email. You must be at least 18 years of age. Or, have parental or guardian consent. You must be willing to pay an adoption fee. Our fees are based on individual dogs.
All dogs are spayed/neutered, wormed, tested for heartworms and vaccinated. They are started on heartworm prevention medication and flea and tick control. If you adopt a puppy it is mandatory that you have it altered by no later than 6 months of age and send us a certificate from your vet stating it was done and when.
We spend a lot of time with the dogs so that we can find the best possible match for a forever home. The right home helps to ensure a happy forever home!!! We try to be as honest as possible regarding the dogs, their temperments and any problems they may have.
If you have any questions please feel free to call or email me and I will be happy to talk with you. Thank You. Donna Jensen
