at Lhasa Happy Homes.
Lhasa Happy Homes is a private rescue and foster care organization, created
for the safe haven and permanent placement of homeless pups, primarily Lhasa
Apsos, Shih Tzus, Maltese, Pomeranians and other small mixed breeds. Each
of the dogs who come to Lhasa Happy Homes is cared for in a home-like environment,
with an abundance of love, attention and special care. These dogs have been
through a lot...and it is our objective to make them feel secure, safe and
protected... so that when they are placed in their forever homes, they will
stay there!
We are NOT a shelter. We rescue from the Los Angeles city and county shelters, and Orange County shelter. We accept Lhasa Apso, Shih Tzu, Maltese and Pomeranian owner turn-ins who are need of re-homing for whatever reason (to save them from even a temporary stay at a shelter). We advocate the spaying and neutering of all animals -- no pup will be adopted from this organization before he/she has been altered. We also treat these pups as if they were our own, providing them with care, attention, a loving environment and rehabilitation, when necessary, to prepare them for their forever homes. We are a non-profit, 501c3 organization. The adoption fee for each pup goes towards subsidizing the expenses involved in preparing the pups for adoption. This includes altering, grooming, de-worming, flea treatment, medical attention, prescriptions, vaccinations and home delivery. Transport, where/when applicable, is not included. Our utmost goal is to adopt humans who will provide the perfect "forever" home for these little furbabies -- wonderful animals who deserve a second chance at a great life.
We are very proud to announce that Lhasa Happy Homes is FINALLY 501c3
approved. Our tax exempt status has been officially given and we are on
cloud nine!!! Thank you for your support -- and for all of you who helped
make this dream a reality....especially Lois Newman, Lisa Janes from Life4Paws,
Gina Jacobson, Julie Strnad and our attorney, Victoria Lindenauer. YIPPPEEEE!
Fortunately...we
get many inquiries about the rescue pups at Lhasa Happy Homes. Unfortunately...it's
difficult to respond as quickly as we'd like. If you see a pup that
you are interested in, please complete our application, which you can
access by clicking on the link at the bottom of this home page. We will
contact you within 48 hours (or less) if we have a pup that matches
your request. Thank you so much for honoring this request. It gives
us the ability to give you the time you deserve in our quest to match
you with the right pup.
We generally
do not favor transporting dogs. However, in some rare circumstances,
this will be considered. This is at the complete discretion of the
organization director, on a case by case basis and usually would involve
a special needs animal. An advance, in-depth interview and home check
would be mandatory. Puppies and/or purebreds will not be shipped under
any circumstances.
The only way we would consider an out-of-state adoption would be for the potential adopting "parent(s)" (or their proxy) to come to our location in West Los Angeles to meet the dog first. Naturally, our objective is to find each pup a new home -- but we want to be assured that the next is their last. This interruption in their lives is difficult on them, and it's our job to make the transition as smooth as possible. Please have compassion and respect for our decision if we determine it is not in the best interest of the dog to be transported. Puppies, or any dogs under 5 years old (unless they are special needs), will only be adopted to homes locally.
If
you are interested in any of the pups listed on our page, the first
step is to complete the application below and fax or email it to Lhasa Happy Homes. Due to liability purposes, we generally do not adopt to families with children under 8 years of age. Please do not call before submitting an application. Until we know a little about you and
what you are looking for, it is impossible for us to tell if a dog is
right for your family. We will also conduct an indepth interview with you and your family, along with any other canine animals in your home, to make sure that the fit is the right one for all concerned. You can email any questions you might have and we will get back to you as ASAP. Please be patient, as we answer all mail as timely as possible. Once your application has been reviewed and approved, we will contact you to set up a time to meet the animal of your choice.
You might find us a bit "invasive" with the questions you are required to answer...that's why they often call us the "Benevolent Lhasa Nazis." Our only objective is to make the perfect match, and we truly go that extra mile in search of exceptional homes for our little furry friends. Each has their own unique personality and characteristics. Their lives have been interrupted for one reason or another, and it's our job to make certain wherever they go next is the last time they will have to move! We endeavor to match the pup with what you are looking for so that they are yours forever more! Online Adoption Application Fax Adoption Application We
are desperately in search of a few very special volunteers who have
a home, love and some extra time to devote to fostering a homeless
pup for anywhere from a week to a month. LHH will be responsible for
any medical and grooming expenses associated with the animal's care.
Foster parents are kind souls, with dog experience, who can provide a warm bed and lots of love and attention until these little furbabies are permanently placed. If this sounds like something you would like to do, there is nothing more gratifying or fulfilling -- it's a really nice, warm and fuzzy feeling contributing to saving a life! Maybe you will end up with a little furbaby next to YOUR pillow! There are various other ways that you can volunteer, if you are not able to provide foster care. This could include attending and helping at adoptions, pick-up/delivery of rescue pups from the shelters and/or vet, dog walking, canvassing the shelters -- believe me, if you have the time, we've got a job for you! Please email Randee Goldman at Lhasa Happy Homes and thanks, in advance, for your help!
