Basky is a special needs 9 year old neutered male Pekingese. He is a very, very sweet boy who adores people. Turned in to animal control by the surviving spouse of his deceased guardian, Basky was suffering with the ravages of long-term neglect. Remarkably, the shelter veterinarian felt he could be saved, so despite his blindness and ailments, she refused to euthanize him. Instead she found the resources to begin his treatment, which we continued after rescuing him. He is feeling so much better now. And we’re glad he is! Basky is a “cuddle bug.” Sit down on the floor next to him and he’s immediately in your lap. He is calm, loving and wants nothing more than kindness and someone to love! He deserves it! He’s such a worthy dog!
Who We Are
HART/Muttmatchers is a 22 year old human services and animal welfare organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of adult dogs (with a speciality in senior and disabled dogs) whose owners face a life crisis such a stroke, frailty, AIDs, Alzheimers or terminal illness and must give up their beloved dogs. We also rescue when dogs survive their owners and there is no next of kin to care for them. We place 80% of the dogs we take in despite their age or disability. 20% remain with out HART family for the rest of their lives. With a speciality in senior and disabled dogs, HART is able to offer the concerned older dog guardian advice on a wide variety of issues affecting the aging canine. We also publish a Breed Rescue List on line, which unites over 100 dog (and cat) rescuers who respond to the needs of homeless purebred dogs and cats in animal control authorities, humane societies and "give-up" and "get ride of" situations.
We maintain a no-kill Sanctuary in Burbank.
You will notice that there are a few other Private Adoptions and other organizations that are also listed under HART dogs. These are friends of our group who asked if they could advertise on our site which we are pleased to do.
HART has resources for living with and training blind and deaf dogs!!!!
