Furever After Small Dog Rescue
Please Help Us to Help More Dogs...
In recent months, many of our dogs have had really high medical needs. As a result of the overwhelming vet bills, we are currently in the midst of a fundraising "blitz". One way you can help is to click on the image below and purchase a subscription to "Modern Dog" magazine. For every subscription sold through this website, we receive a donation to help us with our rescue efforts.

The problem of pet overpopulation is extensive and ongoing, but we are committed to making a difference, one dog at a time. We are always looking for reliable volunteers to help with fostering, fundraising and transporting dogs within BC. If you would like to help or would like more information about our rescue efforts, please contact us via Email.
The following is a link to a short video made by a caring shelter worker in Los Angeles to help increase public awareness about pet overpopulation.

Who We Are
We are a registered non-profit society that focuses on helping small breed dogs who find themselves homeless. We began our rescue efforts in 2002 and since then we have played an integral role in the rescuing and re-homing of dozens of sick and abandoned dogs, many of whom were in danger of euthanasia in overcrowded shelters. We are based in Qualicum Beach, but we have successfully placed dogs in wonderful homes all over Vancouver Island and throughout the Lower Mainland.
The majority of the dogs we rescue come from animal shelters, although we occasionally accept owner surrenders as well. Many of our dogs are rescued from shelters in Los Angeles, where they are in imminent danger of euthanasia due to critical overcrowding. Of course, we also help with dogs in local shelters, often dogs with high medical needs or those who are extremely stressed in the shelter environment.
The dogs in our care are not kept in a shelter or kennel; they are fostered in private homes. They spend a minimum of one to two weeks in foster care, during which time they are provided with appropriate medical care and their foster parents have an opportunity to get to know their individual personalities and needs.
While in our care, each dog is examined by a vet, spayed or neutered, updated on vaccinations, tattooed or micro-chipped and provided with appropriate medical and dental care. Once we've had a chance to get to know each dog's individual personality and specific needs, the dog is listed for adoption. In order to find the best possible match between dog and family, there is an extensive adoption screening process.

Adopting a Friend
Our adoption process involves filling out an adoption application form, a telephone interview, a reference check and a home visit. Our goal is to find the most suitable home to meet the individual needs of each dog for the duration of the dog's life. Post-adoption support and follow-up is provided via telephone, Email or home visits in order to ensure a successful transition of the new family member into the home. There is an adoption fee of $200, which is used to off-set some of the costs we have incurred in caring for the dog. In the rare event that the cost of caring for the dog was less than $200, the remainder of the money goes directly towards helping other dogs in need.

Come Visit Us!
We do not have a shelter---all of our dogs are fostered in private homes, so you need to make arrangements if you would like to come and meet one of them. In consideration of our fabulous foster volunteers, an adoption application form must be filled out and approved prior to meeting any of our dogs. Please contact us via Email.
