Who We Are
Friends for Life is a non-profit organization dedicated to ending the suffering of cats and dogs. Overpopulation is the root cause of most forms of animal suffering, including neglect, abuse, homelessness, and the most visible form - euthanasia. We believe in the most proactive approach to overpopulation - spay and neuter. Preventing the unwanted lives will most effectively end the symptoms associated with overpopulation. Friends for Life maintains several aggressive spay and neuter programs.
With the current overpopulation crisis, preventing unwanted births is not enough. Friends for Life also maintains a shelter and an active adoption program for the unwanted animals already born. In addition, we maintain two community programs designed to help low-income families keep their animal companions through times of crisis. We also maintain programs designed to educate the public on how to properly care for cats and dogs and the importance of spay and neuter.
Our Fundamental Beliefs
Euthanasia is not the answer to population control.
All animals are equally important regardless of their health, age, temperament, appearance, or degree of socialization.
Overpopulation significantly contributes to animal abuse, neglect, disease, suffering, and is the primary cause of euthanasia programs. The best approach to overpopulation is spay and neuter.
Our Mission Statement:
Spay and neuter is the single best solution for animal overpopulation. Therefore, spay and neuter is our focus.
We will spay or neuter every cat and dog for which we have funds.
Animal Adoptions:
We will maintain an active and effective adoption program
for animals in our care.
Public Education and Awareness:
We will reach hundreds of people each month and make them
aware of our efforts, the needs of the homeless and unwanted animals, the many forms of animal suffering, and how they, the general public, can help.
Community Programs:
Many cats and dogs have a caregiver but due to temporary conditions, the caregiver is not able to provide proper care. We will maintain free spay and neuter programs and financial assistance programs for these animals and their people.
Animal Rescue:
We will rescue every animal for which we have funds to
provide proper care.
Trap and Release:
Ferals comprise the greatest percentage of homeless animals on the streets. We will maintain an active and effective trap and release program for feral animals.
Eradication of Feline Leukemia and FIV:
We will maintain an effective Leukemia and FIV testing program for all the cats in our adoption program.
Microchipping:
Lack of permanent identification is a primary cause of euthanasia at local pounds. Microchipping is the most effective means of permanent identification. We will microchip every dog and cat we rescue.
And finally, they are all our Friends for Life
Animals adopted from Friends for Life may be returned to us at any time, for any reason, and without question.
