Please help us help the piggies by making a donation today. Thank you!
In an effort to match the right pet with the right family, our adoption process includes an
Application and an Adoption Contract. To start the process, please complete the application by clicking
here or email us at info@piggypoo.org.
The adoption donation for an adult guinea pig is $25 for a single or "buddy" or $40 for a pair.
Babies under 16 weeks of age are slightly more, with an adoption donation of $30 for a single "buddy" and $50 for a pair.
Pet of the Month piggies offer a special discounted adoption fee of just $15!
Cavies are social creatures, and do best in pairs or more. We rarely adopt out singles, unless they are unbonded and a "buddy" for your lonely piggie at home. However, we generally foster a couple adult males that would be fine on their own, with lots of human attention and interaction.
Each Piggie adopted from Arizona's Piggie Poo Rescue goes home with a "Welcome Home Kit" with lots of information and samples!
The APPR requires that all of our adopted piggies are housed in C&C (cube & coroplast) cages or something comparable, as pet store cages are just too small.
You can build one yourself, or purchase one from the rescue. The cost for a 2 x 4 "grid" (28" x 56") is $60, and a 2 x 3 grid (28" x 42") is $50.
Bigger is better, so always opt for the largest cage possible.
We also have a full accessories package, including brand new water bottle, dish, hidey hut, hay, Oxbow pellets, KMS timothy hay, and bedding for an additional $30.
APPR does not recommend two-level cages as ramp and lofts are opporunities for falls and injuries. Piggies are ground dwelling creatures and the most important thing to consider when building your C&C Cage is floor space i.e. square footage.
For more information on C&C Cages please see www.cavycages.com
100% of all proceeds directly support the rescue.
The APPR is proud to offer the following services:
- Foster Care and AdoptionsArizona's Piggie Poo Rescue, Inc is the only non-profit small animal rescue in Arizona that specializes in guinea pigs. We occasionally foster buns, chins, rats, ferrets and other small animals too.
We are a network of private foster homes with 32 registered volunteers and two adoption locations, our new East Valley Center to open soon, and one in Anthem North.
We are an alternative placement rescue for the municipal shelters in Arizona and many in California, and are supported by Petco in many ways. Through our membership with PACC911, we participate in as many as 12 public adopt-a-thons each year.
We hold a transaction privilege license and offer a full line of guinea pig feed, housing, accessories, C&C Cages, and novelty items. The proceeds from the sale of these items support the rescue 100%.
Generally, we do not accept public surrenders. We chose instead to work with municipal shelters and private rescue groups. Several times a year we travel to California, where groups are constantly at crisis capacity, and in-take up to 50 piggies, as we have resources.
Arizona's Piggie Poo Resuce has a four-part mission:
1. To relieve municipal shelters and private rescues of crisis capacity.
2. To eliminate the euthanasia of healthy adoptable cavies.
3. To expand our network with other rescues in the Southwest and to develop real community between our organizations.
4. To provide unlimited guidance to the public at large, thereby ensuring the expansion of qualified caregivers.
APPR is in constant and dire need of volunteers and foster homes. The rescue provides full training and all the supplies needed to care for foster piggies, with the exception of the fresh daily salad, and the love! If you are interested in volunteering or fostering, please complete our online registration form by clicking here or contact Jessica at jessica@piggiepoo.org
As part of APPR’s commitment to give back to the community, in 2007 we launched our Critters for Cuddling Program. Volunteers from Piggie Poo share the joys of cavies with the residents of Senior Care Homes throughout the valley.
APPR is a private network of Foster Homes throughout Arizona.
Adoption are by appointment only.
