PAKS(People Assisting Kindred Spirits)
Our Featured Pet...
Our featured pets for July are Savana and Dakota. Savana is a beautiful Border Collie/Aussie girl who was on the E list at Pima Aminal Care. She was given up because her guardians did not have her spayed and when she came into heat she jumped their fence to do what dogs natuarally do....she went to look for a mate! Savana is now doing well. She has been spayed, brought current on vaccinations and microchipped and would like to go live with an active family that she can run and play with. It has taken her a while to start learning some manners (not to jump up, etc), but she is on her way. To meet Savana or any of the PAKS kids, please call or email. Dakota was also on the E list at animal control because he had kennel cough. He has since become well and feisty....he loves to play. Dakota would make a great companion for someone who likes to hike. He's not very big but has great energy. To meet Dakota, please call or email.
2007 has been the start of wonderful new adventures for the PAKS volunteers and rescued Kindred Spirits. We have had a year of wonderful adoptions and bringing many new families into the PAKS circle of rescue and foster families. To meet any of our special kids, please call or email. We can also email you an application, so that
you can be put on the PAKS Wish List. It's July and temperatures are fluctuating from one hundred plus degree days to sixty degree nights, so be sure to protect your canine companion from the heat and cold. Did you know it's against the law in Arizona to leave you pet without the proper shade, shelter, food and water? Please be sure to keep your companion animals comfortable in inclement weather and protect them from the monsoon storms.
News
PAKS is in need of foster homes. If you feel you would like to help
one of the less fortunate animals in our society get off to a good start
in their new life, please call or email and we can schedule a visit to
determine which one of our Kindred Spirits would be best suited to
your home and lifestyle. The usual commitment time is two to four weeks, unless you are fostering a young litter of puppies.
PAKS is also looking for volunteers to do photo work and webpage
design and maintainence. If you can spare a few hours a month for
the betterment of homeless companion animals, please call or email.
Who We Are
PAKS is a small rescue group started in 2003, by a group of friends whose purpose is to make the lives of puppymill dogs have meaning other than profit for the greed of their breeders. While our main focus has been to rescue, rehabilitate and place puppymill dogs, we have been involved in numerous other rescues and placements. Since 2003 we have been able to rehab and place over 1000 dogs and other companion animals. We are all volunteers, who devote our time, money and homes to helping these less fortunate inhabitants of our earth. We
have been able to successfully place many animals who would not have had the opportunity for a second chance at life. We believe in guardianship, not ownership and seek to help whenever and wherever we may. Our ultimate goal as guardians is to continue to give sanctuary
and solace to the many abused puppymill dogs rescued from Southern Arizona, primarily in Cochise County.
As individuals we have limited resources, but not limited passion, as
most of us have been involved in rescue for more than a decade.
On June 12, PAKS will celebrate our fifth anniversary. We wish to thank
the Southern Arizona communities for their help in slowing the homelessness situation by offering love and support to the many rescued and abandoned companion animals. Our work has really just
begun. It will be a great day when we no longer have to euthanize a
healthy, adoptable animal simply because there is no room at a
shelter.
Adopting a friend
Adopting a rescue animal is one of the most rewarding experiences a
person can have in their lifetime. Rescue animals give unconditional
love and loyalty to the person who opens their heart and home to them.
All of the members of PAKS have at least one rescue animal and most
have taken in several. There will always be that one sweet creature
with the blind eye(due to neglect) or one who has lost all of her teeth
(becauseof poor nutrition and overbreeding) that you just cannot allow
to go to anybody else, because you have walked them through their
recovery and have witnessed the "baby steps" as they came out of
their shell and came into a world they never new existed. There is no
way to describe the happiness that comes from the blossoming of
the soul of a Kindred Spirit. If you are looking to become the guardian
of a new forever friend, look to the many animal rescue groups to help
you choose the right companion.
Come Visit Us!
PAKS does not yet have a shelter for prospective adoptive families to visit. We have only a small transitional shelter facilitated by one of our
volunteers to help transition our companion animals from homelessness to becoming a part of a new family. PAKS now has five
acres of land in Cochise County to start groundbreaking on a small
shelter before the end of 2008. We are in the process of applying for
grants and seeking benefactors to support the growth of our shelter
program to house animals waiting for forever homes. Right now, most
of our meetings are done through the grooming shop of one of our volunteers, who so generously donates her place of business and her grooming services to help our adoptable friends start their new lives with a fresh new look. Please visit our website: www.dogpaks.org to
get to know us a little better!
