  • Our Mission

“To provide a safe haven for unwanted or abandoned pets in Pinal County, to return lost pets to their rightful owners, to place animals in loving adoptive homes and prevent the overpopulation of dogs and cats through spay and neuter programs.”

    About Us

Founded in 1966, Valley Humane Society is a private, non-profit 501 c(3) organization which accepts nearly 1000 unwanted pets each year. These pets are surrendered to VHS, usually by their owners who can no longer care for them, with a small percentage found as strays.

    WE ARE PROUD MEMBERS OF
HSUS - Humane Society of United States
NACA - National Animal Control Association
Greater Casa Grande Chamber of Commerce

    Did You Know

Many impounded animals in city and county shelters often have only three to ten days in which they are available for adoption, while VHS animals may be sheltered for several months. Located on three acres the VHS shelter cares for up to 50 dogs and 30 cats at a time, and occasionally other pets such as hamsters, ferrets, guinea pigs, rabbits and birds. Each year VHS needs a minimum of $140,000 to provide these animals with basic food, housing, health care and protection from cruelty and other dangers.

    Paws To Think

As the only non-profit Humane Society in Pinal County, VHS receives absolutely no public funding from any government source or from any other animal welfare organization, national or local. The shelter survives solely on donations, memberships, sponsor contributions, and the generosity of local businesses and the general public. Share in our vision that healthy companion animals should not be put to death for lack of a home, lack of shelter space or lack of compassion. Please give generously and consider adopting a pet from Valley Humane Society.

    Ways You Can Help

Please contact VHS at 520-386-0904 for addtional details and donation amount options.

DONATIONS: Cash Donations - Monetary donations are always gratefully accepted to help fund our ongoing costs for animal health care, supplies, shelter maintenance and utilities.

Yard Sale/Thrift Store Items - Gently used furniture, house hold items, working electronics, bedding and towels, children's clothing and toys, bicycles, kitchen items, working tools. (Please no adult clothing, we always have too many).

Pet Food and Treats - Please note that due to our agreement with Hill's Science Diet , we can't accept donations of DRY pet food for use at the shelter . When people do bring us dry food we donate it to the Animal Control Departments or to a needy pet owner. We DO gratefully accept CANNED pet food of any variety, and pet treats without artificial additives or colorings.

VOLUNTEER: Lots of Smiling Faces and Wiggling Tails are waiting to greet you! Our Staff and Pets greatly appreciate your time and efforts! You can help out in many ways, big and small, for as much or as little time you can give. VHS Staff members are very busy with the day-to-day operations of maintaining the shelter, cleaning, running the office, answering phones and caring for the animals that any additional help from volunteers is truly welcome and much needed. Please come to the shelter during open hours or call us and let us know what tasks you'd like to help out with. Need ideas? Ask the VHS staff what projects they recommend.

    Some Examples Are:

  • Walking, petting, and playing with the Dogs and Puppies.
  • Snuggling, petting, and playing with the Cats and Kittens.
  • Brushing and bathing the animals.
  • Being a Foster Parent for very young, very old or recovering animals.
  • Fundraising Event Coordinators and off-site Donation Booth Attendants
  • Adoption Assistants for Petsmart Adoption Events
  • Cleaning, maintenance, yard work and weed removal.
  • Thrift Store Attendants.

On-site volunteers are asked to complete an application available at the shelter. Don't forget Volunteering is a great opportunity for Teens and Young Adults to get JOB EXPERIENCE!

MEMBERSHIPS: Individual, Family, Business, Senior and Lifetime memberships are available. Please call the shelter for details.

GUARDIAN ANGEL PROGRAM: Donate all, or a portion of the adoption, spay, or neuter fees for a dog or cat and give the gift of pet ownership to a family without the resources to cover all the initial adoption costs.

SIGN SPONSORS: Individuals, families and businesses can proudly display their continued support for VHS by sponsoring a customized display sign on a dog kennel or cat cage.

RECYCLE: We collect used brand name ink and toner cartridges (large or small) and old digital cell phones to recycle them for a small profit through the “Cash for Critters” program. We collect aluminum pop cans to recycle too!
