PLEASE NOTE:  We have now closed our doors!  We are not taking on any new rescues at this time!  We hope to re-open but to do that, we will need your help!  We need more volunteers and more financial support!  Please help us help homeless cocker spaniels in Arkansas and surrounding states!

Featured Pet

Sammy has been with our group since March 2003.  You can imagine how well I've gotten to know him.  He's a very special cocker with a unique, funny personality.  He was surrendered by his owners because he has "disciplinary issues".  What this means in a nutshell is that he has to be disciplined delicately.  If you raise your voice to him, or make him feel "threatened" in any way, he feels he has to defend himself.  Who can't understand that?  He needs someone he can trust.  He has built a trust with me (Kat, his foster mom) and I rarely have any trouble with him.  I actually think he's one of the sweetest, most wonderful cockers we've had here.  You can APPLY HERE to adopt this special boy or EMAIL ME to ask for additional information!

AGE:  2 years
Breed:  American Cocker Spaniel (Purebred, AKC Registered)
UTD on all vaccinations, HW-, takes monthly heartworm/flea/tick prevention, Neutered

Likes:  Playing, romping, with you, other dogs, the cats (my cats play with him), loves tennis balls, loves toys, bones, and anything he can play with.  If no one will play with him, he'll toss the bone, or the ball for himself and run after it.  Loves to sit at your feet and have you rub his belly or will bite at your feet until your romp with him.  Likes to sing to certain songs, seems to really like the end song of Lord of the Rings and certain songs by Evanescence will get him to sing along.

Dislikes:  Getting into trouble for bad behaviors like mole chasing in the backyard, barking at the neighbor dogs, or trying to eat out of the litterbox (ewww)

Training:  Sammy has had a few classes of clicker obedience at Petsmart.  He learns quick and part of his adoption will include a $20 off coupon for training classes through Petsmart.  He pulls on his leash some also.

News

We are closed until we can build up some financial support, volunteers, and supplies.  See our main website for a full disclosure about what is going on here at Cocker Paws Rescue.  www.cockerpaws.org

We are in need of donations and foster homes. We urgently need some equipment to help make our lives easier. This includes things like blankets, bath and grooming equipment. We also would love to have a few extra baby gates since this is how we allow the dogs to train in a home environment.

WE NEED: Nutro Natural Choice Lamb and Rice Dog Food
Frontline Plus (any size) and Heartguard or Interceptor (under 50#)
Blankets, Sheets, and Towels

WE URGENTLY NEED DONATIONS TO PROVIDE VETERINARY CARE FOR HOMELESS PETS!

About Us

Cocker Paws began in Feb. 2001. We opened our home to abandoned cockers because of our love for the breed. We found too often that this breed is misunderstood and quickly purchased as a puppy and dumped as a young adult even quicker. The cocker breed has problems that should be considered prior to ANY purchase or adoption. This is the same with any breed of dog or cat, even mixed breeds. We are privately owned and funded and often pay our own bills late to help pay for the need of our pets. Each dog is treated as our own while in our care, and they are all fully vetted and altered. We are only able to help a few cockers at a time.

Thanks,
Kat

Adopting a friend

We screen potential adopters in depth to help provide the best possible home for each cocker as well as place the right pet in your home. You can read full details of our policies at our website... http://www.cockerpaws.org/adopt Adoption fees are set based on the amount we have spent on each dog. We are working on getting our 501-c3 non-profit status but we put every penny donated back into the dogs, including in most cases having your adoption check made out directly to the vet.

Update: We are planning to get our official 501C3 as soon as possible, but in the meantime, we are partnered with a 501C3 group in North Carolina. (PRECIOUS PAWS RESCUE, INC.)

Come Visit Us! Please do not show up at our home uninvited.  Thank you for respecting our privacy!  :0)

If you would like to meet a dog from Cocker Paws, you must contact us to set up an appointment. I work full-time and our co-director (my boyfriend of 9.5 years) is a full-time college student/military member who just might be in college forever...LOL. We run Cocker Paws from our home and are not a shelter environment although we feel that provides a better situation for the dogs in rescue.

You may also visit us at Petsmart for our adoption clinics.
We are a PETSMART CHARITIES APPROVED ADOPTION PARTNER.

There are no adoption clinics currently set.
