Groovy, Baby! It's Time for Woofstock 2008!! Join us September 13 for our 8th Annual Woofstock Celebration - "A Day in the Park with Your Dog." This year's event will be held from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Kiesel Park in Auburn. Woofstock is the largest attended fundraiser of the year for the Lee County Humane Society. Admission to the event is free, but there will be plenty of win-win opportunities to support the animals at the Lee County Humane Society so please bring your checkbook. Festivities for Woofstock this year include an expanded children’s fun area with balloon animals, an inflatable moonwalk and slide, and carnival games. Woofstock will also include many activities for furry friends including a Wash-N-Wag tent and dog agility course. Many Woofstock favorites will be there again including local K-9 demonstrations, and music from rising local artists. Pet merchandise vendors will also set up booths and sell their products at Woofstock. This year there will also be a special surprise announcement at 2 p.m. that will impact the animals of Lee County like nothing else LCHS has done. This will truly be a milestone opportunity for our shelter. So bring your entire family, including your dog, to Woofstock 2008 for a day of doggone fun! |

Efforts are under way to offer a new spay/neuter license plate in Alabama. From November 1, 2007, through October 31, 2008, you can go to your local county car license tag office and pay a $50 "Commitment to Purchase" deposit.* You can do this at any time during the year regardless of when your tag is due. At least 1,000 people must commit to purchasing the tag in order for the tag to be produced. More info is available here. Update: So far only about 564 people have signed up for the Spay/Neuter tag in Alabama. Please go to your local courthouse today if you want to help make this tag a reality because time is running out! *$41.25 of the $50 tag fee will go into a fund to offer low cost spay or neuter surgeries to low-income households. |

Foster Homes Urgently Needed! If you are interested in helping the shelter, fostering is one way to make a huge impact. Fostering dogs or puppies for 2-4 weeks can literally save lives. We urgently need people to care for puppies and dogs until they can go into adoption. Fostering also offers the foster parents some advantages. It can be a great way to enjoy a dog or puppy without having to make a long-term commitment. Or if you have a dog who would like some playtime companions, but you don't want to take on another dog permanently, fostering can be ideal. It's also a great way to teach children about the responsibility of pet ownership. If you are interested in fostering for the Lee County Humane Society, please e-mail becky@leecountyhumane.org. |
