The Greater Huntsville Humane Society (GHHS) was incorporated in 1969 by 39
charter members as a non-profit, charitable (501)
(c) (3) organization. Our mission is to promote the humane treatment of
animals. We operate a NO-KILL animal shelter for
homeless and unwanted animals and conduct an adoption program to place these
animals into suitable homes. We are a privately
funded organization and we receive no tax dollars, no government funds and no
funds from any national humane organization. We
depend entirely on donations, fundraisers and adoptions for funds. All
donations to GHHS are tax deductible.
We take in pets of all kinds and work to find them the best possible homes.
Due to large amounts of unwanted animals, there
may be a wait to get an animal into the Humane Society.
We would like to welcome ALL OUR NEW STAFF MEMBERS AND CARETAKERS to
the Greater Huntsville Humane Society! Please
check back for our "STAFF" and "BOARD" sections COMING SOON
Our goal is to place sheltered animals with families that we feel is
the best fit for both you and your new pet. An application must be
completed. Sometimes, we may ask even more questions to clarify your
expectations/situation.
Not every dog is right for every
individual/family and we try our best to make the adoption of your new
pet a happy and permanent one for all. Please feel free to email
GHHS
if you have any questions or inquiries as to the
status of an animal listed. If you do not see the pet you are looking
for, please send us an email and tell us what you are looking for. We
know of thousands of shelter animals awaiting their forever family to
find them.
Our adoption fees are:
$125.00 for pets ages 5 months and up
$150.00 for pets under 5 months
If you would like to adopt
any of the animals that are posted here,
just contact GHHS. We will make
every effort to answer all of your questions and to make adoptions
happen as quickly as possible.
The National Pet Adoptathon was held on May 3, 2008 and May 4, 2008. We had a
FANTASTIC turnout from the community.
We had 17 adoptions of our brothers and sisters! We are SO HAPPY that
they have found Forever Homes. We would like
to thank the community for such a wonderful turnout and for spreading the
word! It's wonderful to have so much support! We
cannot thank you enough!
As we find ourselves growing and developing, we find we have a need for new friends to help with many different areas of maintaining our shelter, keeping it running smoothly, and meeting the different needs of our many animal babies.
We are ALWAYS looking for friends who would like to give some of their time by Volunteering. There's not a specific "area" to Volunteer for, it's what the animals require at the time. Often, our Volunteers come in and play with the babies, clean kennels, do laundry, help answer phones, and many other things.
We do have a Volunteer "Application Form" that we get filled out, sit and talk with you some, and we go from there.
If you would like more information, please come by and talk with us or contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Jaime, at:

Huntsville Humane Society is very excited to announce the
SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION of the Fourth Annual "Hot Dogs and Cool Cats" Pet Photo Contestand fundraiser. The
pet receiving the most votes ($1 a vote) will be
honored as the cover pet for the 2009 Hot Dogs and Cool Cats Calendar.
There will also be 14 featured pets of the month, 70 pets of the week and 3
Photographers’ Choice awards.
The real winners, of course, will be the shelter animals in our care. GHHS, a
no-kill shelter, finds forever homes for over
1,000 pets annually and is supported entirely by public donations, our Thrift
Shop, and fundraisers. Contest proceeds will
allow GHHS to continue to provide a safe haven and quality medical care for
homeless animals throughout our community.
“Join Hands” and “Spread the Word”! Ask your coworkers, friends and
church members to help and contribute a care package! Get your kids
invovled. Help your kids learn that they can make a differance!

We have chosen Kuranda dog beds for our boarding facilities
because they are so good for our dogs. We still don't have enough

dog can sleep in proper comfort, please
