Who We Are
Dixie Dachshund Rescue is a nonprofit organization incorporated in Alabama and serving the Southeastern United States at this time. Our goal is to give any abandoned, abused or unwanted Dachshunds a second chance at finding a safe and loving forever home. We welcome new members who can help us provide that for Dachshunds by adopting, fostering, transporting, raising funds or in any other supportive way. When we are contacted about a Dachshund needing a new home for any reason, we make arrangements to receive the dog and place it in a foster (temporary) home with one of our members until the dog gets adopted. During this time in foster care, the dog is examined by a Veterinarian, treated for any illness, brought up to date on shots and spayed/neutered if need be, heartworm tested, and placed on heartworm prevention. After evaluation by the foster parent, and when the dog is ready, it is placed up for adoption. Our criteria is STRINGENT. Prospective homoes must fill out applications, references are checked and home visits are required. ADOPTION FEES ARE BASED ON AGE AND HEALTH OF DOG, AND AS STATED ABOVE, INCLUDES ALL SHOTS, SPAY/NEUTER, HEARTWORM PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF ANY ILLNESSES.
