Here at Chaos & Critters we strive to give Love and Security to all beast, regardless of species. We seek good homes and knowledgable pet owners to take in those beast we rescue. In fact, we keep several ourselves! This rescue is run from our home here in Mobile, Alabama - not an "animal warehouse". The rescued animals live with us, our children, and our personal pets. (Hence the name of our rescue!) That means that we take in only those animals that can be safely socialized with children and other pets. All rescues are given only the best of food, safe & warm beds, lots of play time. We also supply vet care as needed from Mobile's finest veterinarians who have lots of experience with exotic pets as well as dogs and cats. We insist that prospective families fill out an application. We are serious about finding the best home possible for our rescues. What we are not is another batch of bleeding hearts. We do not belong to PETA or any other such "animal rights" group. In fact, one of us is a life-long hunter and fisherman, and he does NOT ship animals..
Why do we do it? Because there is a need. And because everyone in our home loves pets of all sorts and wants to see them in good, safe, homes. Most importantly, there is no one else willing to rescue exotic reptiles anywhere near our area. We decided to take up the slack. Oh, so you know, we do NOT ship animals.
How do we do it? With lots of love and understanding. With certain sacrifices to our lifestyle that we are more than willing to make. And also by wisely using our resources and discounts. We are not in this for a profit. Indeed, we ask only a small adoption fee, which varies per animal. This is a major change in our operation. We have been forced to charge an adoption fee simply because donations have been so few and far between. Speaking of donations, they are, of course, always welcome! If you wish to donate cash to our cause you may do so quite easily by clicking on the PayPal button in the menu bar to the right and then using your personal PayPal account or credit card. There is never a shipping & handling fee because we do NOT ship animals.
Do you destroy animals? Absolutely NOT! First, we are not licensed by the state for such activities. Further, we only take in the number of animals that we could keep permanently if it should come to that extreme. That way we are never placed in the position of destroying animals due to lack of space. However, should an animal be so sick that our vets recommend it, then we will have said animal put down by a professional vet to end its suffering. We also do NOT ship animals.
What kinds of animals do you take in? Remember, we operate out of our home in Mobile County. That means limited space. Currently we can accept most exotic snakes, and many species of exotic lizards along with occasional birds, ferrets and other unusual pets. If you need a home for your beastie pick up the phone or send a quick email to discover what our current load. You should feel free to stop by and check us out. If you loved pet must leave it is only natural to want to know where it is going. We would feel the same way about our animal friends. Bring your animal and we'll see how it fits in our home together for your piece-of-mind. By the way, we do NOT ship animals!
Ok. What will you NOT take in? We do not take in indigenous (local) species as rescues to be adopted. They should just be left in their natural environments - and - should they need help all States have wildlife rescues. In the event that such an animal is brought to us we will see that it is healthy and then release it back to the wild or turn it over to the proper state agency. We will NOT accept "hot", (read: "venomous"), creatures at any time or for any reason! This Rescue operates out of our home. Our family - including small children - share our home with these beasties. It would be completely foolish to expose family and pets to such danger. There are professionals that can milk venom for medicine. They are paid well and do not need our help. We also will not accept violent beasties or those with communicable diseases for obvious reasons. We love the beasties greatly, but our children ALWAYS come first. Did we mention that we do NOT ship animals?
