The Humane Society of Escambia County Alabama is a non-profit, private entity that has been established not only for the protection and welfare of the people and animals of Escambia County, Alabama, but also to increase the public's awareness of the plight that thousands of animals across the United States face every year. The primary goal of HSEC is to decrease the numbers of animals that are euthanized because of pet overpopulation by increasing the numbers of healthy, spayed/neutered dogs and cats that are adopted by responsible, loving families. HSEC currently handles the animal service needs of the municipalities of The City of Brewton, The Town of Flomaton, The City of Atmore and The Escambia County Commission. If you have an animal control need, simply call either of our facilities and we are happy to respond. We are responsible for the housing of the lost, abandoned, unwanted and abused animals of our county. We diligently work to place as many pets as possible in loving homes through various methods. Petfinder.com showcases our pets to anyone browsing the internet while various breed rescues help us to place specific breeds in foster care until a home can be found. We have also partnered with other shelters to transfer adoptable animals from our shelter to theirs in order to give them even more exposure to potential adopters. HSEC is also deeply committed to public education and, when necessary, the enforcement of state animal cruelty laws through prosecution. We handle cases involving dogfighting, hoarding, neglect. Our primary goal is always the education and assistance when possible rather than criminal prosecution, however, our animal cruelty division does not hesitate to bring charges and seize animals when all attempts of joint cooperation have failed or when blatant cruelty exists.

While our operating hours are 8 am-5 pm M-F, our open kennel hours for adoptions are noon-4 pm Mon-Fri. We are open on Saturdays and Sundays by appointment only. We are happy to accomodate weekend adopters, but we do ask that they fill out and have an approved application prior to making the appointment.

A membership drive is underway! Extra hands are needed to help walk, bathe and play with our pets and participate in fundraising events.We have a opportunity to participate in off site adoptions at Petsmart in Mobile. This type of event calls for lots of folks....the more volunteers we have, the more animals we can take for possible adoption! Come by the shelter and join up today!
Donations of paper towels, canned food (puppy and cat), kitty litter, bleach, and bedding such as blankets and towels are always needed and greatly appreciated. Of course, the best donation is $$$....
