"The worst sin towards our fellow creatures is not to hate them, but to be indifferent to them, that's the essence of inhumanity." - George Bernard Shaw, Irish Playwright and Essayist Please visit our petlist to see who is available for adoption. We also have a lost and found page, some of the pets posted will come up for adoption, at which point they will be moved to the petfinder list. |
Who We AreThe Brooks Animal Protection Society (formerly Brooks and District SPCA) is a charitable organization run by seven volunteer board members. We have two paid employees the Executive Director/Shelter Coordinator and the Animal Control Officer (ACO), and three volunteers that are given an Honorarium by taking turns coming in twice per day to clean, feed, water, exercise and administer medication to the animals being cared for in the shelter. We also have multiple volunteers who help us with fundraising events, vaccinations, grooming, driving to numerous distant locations to deliver un-adopted pets to rescues, fostering animals, socializing animals and repairs to shelter equipment etc. We are a very unique society, as we hold the contract with the City of Brooks, for Animal Control. All animals that are brought in through Animal Control are put up for adoption after four business days if not claimed. If we cannot find a home for these animals, we send them to non-kill rescue organizations in hopes that they can find their forever homes. Adopting a new member of the familyOur adoption procedures are fairly basic, fill out an adoption request, it will be reviewed by the appropriate adoption coordinator. A home check is done to ensure that the pet is right for your home. The adoption fee is 150.00 for dogs, 85.00 for cats, this includes altering, cursory health check, deworming, microchipping, first shots and six weeks pet health insurance. We want the animal to be a part of your family for the rest of it's life! Altering is done prior to adoption. We ask many questions on the adoption form, but this is to help us in judging if the animal and your family will be the perfect match. For an adoption request form, please visit our website where it is available for download. Long distance adoptions can be done, for more information you can contact one of our adoption coordinators. |

We have moved into our new Shelter! Our new shelter address is 415, 1st Ave E. Donations towards the new shelter are greatly appreciated. We did receive a large private donation to cover the shell of the building, but we still need things such as kennels, flooring, counters, cupboards etc.
