Tess's Happy Ending

From: Emily Mount, Chapel Hill, NC

Petfinder had Tess listed as "URGENT." Although I wasn't looking for a dog (I already had one), I sent her shelter an email about her and what "URGENT" meant. They responded saying that she was 6 months old, appeared to be good with other dogs and children, but she had been at the shelter for almost 3 months. The woman who sent me the email from her shelter said she was in love with Tess but already had 27 dogs at home, all dogs she couldn't let get euthanized. I thought about it and the next day I called figuring I would do foster care and find her a home here in Chapel Hill (about 3 hours from the shelter she was in). When I called the shelter to say I would drive up that weekend to pick Tess up the woman answered the phone and then said "Hold on a second," when she came back to the phone she told me she had run outside because Tess was already on the van which they use to transport the animals to the location where they are euthanized. After having Tess for about a week I found her a wonderful family with three young boys and a yard. When I told my mother and grandmother about the family I had found for her they both started crying and said they couldn't let her go. A year and a half later and now Tess is a permanent fixture in our family. She is thankful of anything I give her, it's like she knows that I saved her off that van.
